What is 867 foot tall from its base, has a base diameter of 1,000 feet and it’s tear-drop shaped top is 1.5 acres and large enough to hold a football field? It is located in the northeast corner of Wyoming. This is a sacred place to the many Plains Indians. Approximately 5,000 climbers come here every year from all over the world to climb these vertical walls. In 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed this massive rock structure the first national monument. Here are some picture hints.

We are standing and setting in the boulder field at the base.
This picture is from a few miles away.
You are correct. It is Devils Tower.
This is lunch near the parking area. It was a nice spot for a great lunch.
This is a fantastic view from the 1.3-mile trail around the base.
We find these wonderful colors everywhere we go.
Look closely on the right side and you can see part of the original ladder from 1893 that was used to first climb the Tower.
Here a climber is about half way to the top.
This deer was about 20 foot away along the walking trail. We drove a little over 268 miles today and it was well worth the effort. Devils Tower is a mystical place with it’s own incredible beauty and we are very happy we had the chance to see it up close.
