September 13, 2007

We were up and on the road at 6:00 AM today. We drove two vehicles to Decatur, Indiana for RV repairs and a Fleetwood Motor Home Factory tour. We needed service for a recall on the leveling jacks, the repair of a water leak in one of the slides and an engine oil/filter change. Because Decatur is an hour ahead of us and we needed to be at Sullivan’s RV Service between 9:30 and 10:00 AM we needed to start early in the morning. Bill, Richard and I went in the motor home and Jeanette, Vera and Char went in Jeanette’s car. After dropping off the RV, we went to breakfast and then a little antique shopping downtown before our afternoon factory tour.

The factory tour was very interesting and we all learned many things about motor home manufacturing. We were not allowed to take pictures in the plant. Our motor home is made by Fleetwood but not at this plant. This plant only makes the diesel coaches. Richard and Vera’s RV and ours were made at the Paxinoes, Pennsylvania plant. The tour lasted about two hours and we had the opportunity to see the process from the bare chassis to the finished RV. All the motor homes were special orders with most already sold to customers. It was fun to see the different options being installed and what people requested to make each RV their personal home on wheels.
