Today was animal day for us. We went to Terry Bison Ranch south of Cheyenne. On the way we saw a pronghorn antelope and a little further down the road there was a hawk setting on a fencepost watching us.

Once at the ranch, we took a train ride and saw camels, horses, Texas longhorns, bison, llamas, beefalo and geese. Here are some of Vera’s pictures.

There are approximately 2500 bison on the ranch. Here is a picture of part of the herd on the range.
Have you heard the saying “You can take the man off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the man”. Richard was a farmer and always will enjoy being around animals. He especially enjoyed petting the horses and feeding the camels.

Vera and Charlotte found a favorite in a baby ponkey (a cross between a miniature pony and a donkey) that was born July 24th. Her name was Opal and she was very friendly and enjoyed the attention.

The ranch has leased a hilltop to the local utility company for wind generators. They said each generator cost 1.3 million dollars and produces enough electricity for 400 homes every hour.

As usual the rain started on our way back to our RVs. It was just a very light rain but this still counts for a rainy day as we were driving. We were hoping that we might see a rainbow. Charlotte spotted one while looking out our RV window. We all went out to enjoy this beauty in the sky. In the picture below, I think Richard is looking for the pot of gold that is supposed to be at the end of a rainbow. He didn’t find anything so we must have parked in the wrong place. Oh well, we still are having fun.
